Do you have to be potty trained for the 3-year-old class?

NO.  We would ask that you bring the child in pull-ups until fully trained.  We have discovered that the peer encouragement of the other children will quickly aid in your child-becoming potty trained.  We offer opportunity to use the potty but will also change pull-ups during the training process.

How do you handle disciplinary actions that arise?

We explain in detail the expected behavior.  If the child needs further correction we use a time out location and tell the child to think about the inappropriate behavior for a few minutes (i.e., 5 minutes).  If time out has not helped achieve proper behavior, the child is then sent to the Coordinator’s office to sit and further “think on” the wrong behavior.  This is a rare occasion, but once there, they are reminded of all the fun they are missing and after a few minutes are generally ready to return to the class activities.

How long have the teachers and other staff been with the Preschool?

Most of our staff have been involved in preschool work for several years and specifically employed at Maple Springs for at least 5 years. Many of the staff members have 10 years or more tenure with us.  We believe we enjoy long-term employment with our staff because we treat one another with respect and feel we are all part of a ministry to our children.

When should you not bring a sick child?

The child must be symptom free of a fever or an upset stomach for at least 24 hours before coming to preschool.  This benefits all the children and we are firm about implementing the policy.

Why do you follow the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School calendar?

Many of our staff members are mothers, who have their own children in school.  When the WSFC schools are closed they need to be at home with their own children.
