Our first experience as a church on the Navajo Reservation was in the summer of 2007. We set out not knowing what we might encounter but knowing that there was a need for serving there. During our visit, our eyes were opened and our hearts were heavy as we saw first-hand the number of people who struggle with the mere necessities of life. We have now connected with a Nigerian Methodist Missionary family serving there and are headed back after Christmas.  We have learned of the tremendous needs for blankets, school supplies, and the sharing of God’s love with the children and their families. We are currently collecting items for stockings to be delivered to the Navajo children. If you have an interest in this type of ministry, please contact Eric Dowdy at detroit@triad.rr.com or Robin Hedrick at robin@maplesprings.org.

Update:

We spent 7 days in the Sawmill, Navajo, and Window Rock communities, two days after Christmas distributing 250+ backpacks with Christmas wish list items in them. We distributed 319 blankets to help keep them warm. We are planning a trip back this summer. We are currently waiting on our missionaries to tell us when we can best assist them in their ministry efforts. For anyone interested in going to serve the Navajo people please contact Robin Hedrick at robin@maplesprings.org.
